Chemung Recap May 20th by Matt Lewis

Friday night at Chemung Speedrome featured exciting edge of your seat racing for night number two of the regular season.  The weather was perfect and we had a surprise visitor to the track as Chemung native Brett Bodine paid a visit.

The Bandolero feature was lead to green by by Kalista DeMark with Chase Sinsabaugh in hot pursuit as a battle shaped up in the 10 lap feature. The caution flew on lap 8 as both cars came together on the backstretch, knocking them both out of the race. This put 3rd place runner Micheal Bass in the lead on the restart and that's where he stayed to take the win for the Outlaws with Devon Gullo taking the win for the Bandits.

The 20 lap 4 Cylinder Feature was led to green by Sidnie Decker with Payton Shaw in hot pursuit.  It was Nick Robinson who started 6th and continued his hard charge to the front of the pack powering around Jason Peck, Matt Jenkins, and Payton Shaw.  It was Robinson taking over the lead on lap 8 from Zack Jaynes as an intense battle ensued between both cars with side by side running. In the end it was Nick Robinson holding on for the win.

The Modifieds 35 lap feature started as Charlie Sharpsteen took command. The pressure was on for the lead as Gunner Zeiner powered to the front and the lead with pressure being applied as Keith Young moved up to make the pass for second position.  It was all Young as he took over the lead and held on for the feature win.

An impressive field of 15 Hobby Stocks was led to green by Kalysta Demark with Tom Shafer in hot pursuit for the 20 lap feature.  It was an intense battle all the way thru the pack with 9th place starter Joe Heintzelman worked his way all the way thru the pack to second position as around to take the lead with Demark falling back to 9th. 10th starting Dave Decker also made his way to the front as a 3 car battle shaped up for the remainder of the feature between Shafer, Heintzelman, and Decker.  When all was said and done, it was Tom Shafer holding on and taking the win.

The 25 lap Super Stock feature shaped up to be one of the most competitive of the night for all 25 laps. The feature was led to green by Joey Bevacqua and Jody Buckley on the first row. The competition was just beginning between Garrett Zacharias and Nick Robinson on the second row starting 3rd and 4th.  An intense battle began to shape up as both powered to the front with Zacharies taking the lead with side by side running before Garrett began to pull away.  The feature seemed to be over when contact on turn one between Frank Chapman and a spinning Jody Buckley brought out the red flag on lap 24 with just one lap remaining. There was a massive amount of fluid on the track as the safety crew worked to remove Chapman's car and clean up.  When racing resumed about 15 minutes later it was a white checker finish as Garrett Zacharias held on for the win.

Chemung is off this weekend but will return to action on Friday, June 3rd at 7 PM.
